The first ever OSH Group Shed Hunt occurred on March 17, 2007. Troy and I would like to thank all of you who where able to attend and make it successful. We've had this idea for a couple years now and it was great to finally get a group hunt put together. We had about 20 people join us (from Eugene, Burns, Madras, Bend, LaPine, etc.) and had several other folks that wanted to come along, but had prior committments. It was a great day weather-wise (70+ degrees) for a full day of hiking in the high desert! I think everyone (including the kids and dogs) had fun. Again, thank you folks for making it a success.
The day started off by meeting at Troy's place at 9 am. We had about a half-hour of telling stories, eating donuts, and looking at Troy's shed and big game collection. Several others brought sheds to show off also. Then it was off to do some shed hunting. We all got to shed hunting around 10:30am and Troy and I hadn't left the pickup yet when we heard someone on the radio say that they had found the first shed of the trip...and a massive shed at that! Hornhunter's husband Mel found it. So the pressure was some-what off at that point.
It was a full day of hiking. We all met up again around 4 pm. As a group we found about 15 sheds (three of which were fresh) and one fresh matching 3x3 set, which was tall and had long eyeguards. Cameraguy found one side earlier in the day and Hornhunter found the other side later on. The rest of us managed to find a few sheds here and there, or at least pieces of sheds or deer tracks!
