GROUP SHED HUNT
Saturday & Sunday, March 14th & 15th!

The Third Annual OSH Group Shed Hunt and Fourth Annual Gathering was held on Saturday March 14, 2009. Troy and I would like to thank all of you who where able to attend and make it successful. This is the third year in a row that we hunted the same general area. We had about 50 people join us this year from all parts of the state (Eugene, Burns, Tillamook, Madras, Medford, Salem, Prineville, to name a few). We also had several shed hunters that came from various locations in Washington! It was a greater than expected day, weather-wise, for a full day of hiking in the high desert! It was supposed to rain or snow, but we never got much more than a couple minutes of light drizzle. It looked like everyone (including the kids and dogs) had fun. Again, thank you to everyone that joined us for making it a success!
The day started off by meeting at Ray's Food Mart in Sisters, OR at 7:30 am. We left for the shed hunting location around 7:45 and folks were off to shed hunting by 8:45. It was a full day of hiking. Some folks came back for lunch and then left to go find more sheds. We all met back at camp around 5 pm. As a group we found between 50-60 sheds. It was some-what difficult to figure up the final tally with so many people and sheds...which is a good problem to have! A few matching sets were found, several brownies, some chalk, several big four points, lots of small ones, and a couple whopper four-points! Several of the sheds were found by dogs, one in particular found by "Sage" from Redding, CA was one of the largest sheds of the day! One dog, trained by Cabin Creek Kennels, was put to test. A large, fresh four point and an older antler were hidden in some heavy sage brush a couple hundred yards from camp. We lead the dog out in the general direction of the sheds and he quickly found both antlers!
After an hour or so of playing with the dogs and looking at everybodies finds we started up the barbeques. We had hamburgers, hotdogs and sidedishes brought from everyone! After the barbeque, OSH gave away prizes in several categories. Categories included the most sheds found, biggest shed found, smallest shed found, smallest four-point found, farthest distance driven, etc. Prizes included several custom framed photos compliments of Camerguy's Photography, several Danner hats, t-shirts, socks, boot grease, Leupold hats, Cabela's hats, Nosler hats, Danner Flashlights, OSH hats, Camelback Hydration pack, decals, and more. Most folks present for the awards barbeque left with some sort of prize.
Cameraguy and his wife Gayle were also presented with a Special Thank You Award ($200 gift certificate to Cabelas) for single-handedly keeping the OSH webpage updated and running smoothly for us over the past several years. We truly appreciate their help and couldn't keep OSH running without their devoted assistance!
After the prizes were all awarded most people sat around the fire and told stories. About twenty people stayed the night and some went shed hunting on Sunday. What a great weekend of fun! Thanks again for all the support in making this event successful. We look forward to next year! Be sure to check the forum for some more photos and stories from other people who made the trip!
