GROUP SHED HUNT - Saturday, March 8th!

The Second Annual OSH Group Shed Hunt was held on Saturday March 8, 2008. Troy and I would like to thank all of you who where able to attend and make it successful. This is the second year in a row that we hunted the same general area. We had about 50 people join us this year from all parts of the state (Eugene, Burns, Pendleton, Tillamook, Madras, Bend, LaPine, Prineville, to name a few). We had several other folks that wanted to come along, but had prior committments. It was a great day weather-wise (60+ degrees) for a full day of hiking in the high desert! It looked like everyone (including the kids and dogs) had fun. Again, thank you folks for making it a success.
The day started off by meeting at Troy's shop between 7-8 am. Those that showed up at 7am had an hour of telling stories, eating donuts, and looking at Troy's shed and big game collection. Several others brought sheds to show off also. Then it was off to do some shed hunting. We all got to shed hunting around 9 am.
It was a full day of hiking. Some folks came back for lunch and then left to go find more sheds. We all met back at camp around 4 pm. And, boy did the sheds roll in! As a group we found between 70-80 sheds. It was actually difficult to figure up the final tally with so many people and sheds...which is a good problem to have! Several matching sets were found and about half of the final tally were fresh brownies! One heck of a hunt it was.
After an hour or so of looking at everybodies finds, OSH gave away prizes in the following categories:
1. Most Sheds - OSH membership with Cooler
2. Biggest Matched Set - OSH t-shirt with Cooler
3. Biggest Shed - Danner t-shirts
4. Smallest Shed - Danner t-shirt
5. Farthest Distance Driven - Custom Muley framed Photo/Outwest Taxidermy Hat
We didn't capture all the names of the winners, but we will get that information soon. Most sheds found by an individual over the day turned out to be a tie. Tie-breaker was a flip of a coin. Most sheds found was 5 by Gyppo Logger and another guy from Central Oregon. Biggest matched set was a big heavy fresh set found stacked on top of each other found by Ms. Tibbs. Can't remember exactly how many points per side, but there were at least 5 points on each side. Smallest shed was won by Camerguy with a shed about 1-2 inches long. He thought it was a mushroom at first glance. Biggest shed was a three-way tie with all of them winning a prize. Mason Tibbs, Ms. Tibbs, and Gyppo Logger. Most miles traveled went to a couple from Pendleton, Jack and Wanda. They won a custom burnt-wood framed photo of a big muley buck that Cameraguy captured and an Outwest Taxidermy hat. Cameraguy and his wife Gayle were also presented with a Special Thank You Award ($100 gift card to Sportsman's Warehouse) for helping OSH keep the webpage running smoothly for us over the past couple years. We truly appreciate their help!
After the prizes were all awarded we had a potluck barbeque and sat around the fire. Some folks stayed the night and went shed hunting on Sunday, while the majority of us left for home. What a great weekend of fun. Thanks again for all the support in making this event successful. We look forward to next year! Be sure to check the forum for some more photos and stories from other folks.

DAY TWO

Day 2 started off with CameraGuy getting up and preparing scrambled eggs and link sausages for everybody. Then we all loaded up to go look for some sheds. Next few pictures explain the rest of the day but while Hornhog was stuck in the mud, Nightngale and 2 of the boys went out shed huntin. They found one little elk shed and a matched 4 point. Hornhog would still be stuck in the mud if it wasn't for Rob coming out and helping us with his truck and a tow.
